"I write descriptions of natural forms on the walls, scratching them on the tile surface with a diamond."
–Donald Barthelme, "Game"
Hi, thanks for the question. I am working on animated gifs! But it’s hard. So far I’ve only made the one (link), but I’m trying to reorganize the current program so I can crank them out like the randomized stills. Means I have to pull apart some mathematical functions and object-methods that I’d previously coded as single things for the goal of “efficiency.” Oh, how often I shake my fist at myself of a few weeks ago! Anyway, progress is slow (I may have another glitch batch to post soon) but still progressing. I’ll try again today.
Don’t have much planned in the way of sets of gifs right now. I have a few photosets so far: the aforementioned glitch batches (1 2) and some sets illustrating pattern variations (1 2 3). Since then, though, I’ve been tagging the pictures with their generating parameters so anyone can make a little slideshow by clicking on the rule tags for the recently produced pictures.
(Some older squares and hexagons had their parameters encoded with a different index, so this is a bonus on newer pictures, not a uniform catalog, as cool as that would be.)
Anyway, thanks again for the note. Once this program restructuring is done I should be able to make and choose randomized colorful patterns again too, at a rate much improved from the previous thirty to sixty minutes per picture.
Ha, thanks I guess?
I’ve never taken drugs. Been curious (especially about psilocybin after a recent Radio Lab segment) but haven’t really pursued any opportunity to do so. Honestly, I’m not even much of a drinker and I worry about the same tendency taking over that compels me to chew through a whole pack of gum within a half hour of buying it. But I’ll take your comparison as a compliment. Glad you’re enjoying the artwork.
